Someone has told me that a standing seam roof with concealed hinges has higher maintenance costs than a slate style metal roof. Is this true? Also is it true that standing seam roofs are less resistant to wind damage than slate-like metal roofs?

Hi Joan, I am not sure what you mean by "hinges" but if you're comparing a standing seam roof with concealed fasteners and fastening clips to a metal shingle of some sort, provided the products are made of similar grade metals and have similar finishes, they should have similar durability. As far as wind resistance, this could vary from system to system. I would inquire with the manufacturer as to what wind testing they have passed. Todd Miller
