I am thinking of installing a metal roof myself, for a couple of reason.. 1 we were hit by KATRINA. 2 finding some to do the job is problematic. 3 I think I could put the metal on myself for what it would cost me to hire some to put a shingle roof on. I do have some skill, well my wife might not excatly agreee; but I am working on my 2 renovation the fist was a gut. no real experience with installing a roof.

First advise is selecting a product that will meet your needs and the local building code. The IBC, FL and TX codes all have wind performance in them which meens the products need to have been tested to their standards. Most metal roofs perform excellant against the wind but it does require following the instructions and using the correct fasteners in the correct locations. You will need to study up and read the product approval which will have the main installation info included. Unlike shingles which generally all install the same way, there are many differant types of metal systems. Good luck.
