I was wondering if I could put galvanized roofing over my existing roof . its spongy in spots and due to my credit Iam forced to do this myself and find a cheep but workable solution to it . I have heard that I could put 2x4s under the roofing to support the panels . should I screw it down with the screws straight in to the 2x4s or should I angle them in to the wood ? could you help me to understand ?

The first key is to find the product that you're going to install. Once you do that, then you need to get installation instructions for that product and follow them.
Any areas where the current deck is rotted should be replaced before putting down the new roof.
Some metal roofs can be installed over purlins like you're talking while others cannot be. Virtually any metal roof can be installed over solid decking, with appropriate underlayment.
Again, you need to find the product you're installing and then see how it must be installed. These products are all different and have different requirements.
I do have a pretty good article on metal roofing I will be glad to share with you if you email direct to me at [email protected] and request it.

If you go to www.mtlsales.com you will find instructions you can download.
HOWEVER, keep in mind that mot all panels nor all manufacturers will have the same instructions. You always need instructions form the manufacturer of the products you are installing. If they do not have complete detailed instructions, please find another manufacturer.
