what time frame is the norm for a contractor to warranty his work (2,5 year or lifetime)?
I understand that the product carries a different warranty that the one the contrator will give for his instillation.

I have seen warranties from one year to "lifetime" for the property owner. Average I see is maybe five years.
In my opinion, five years is a good number. If there is an installation problem, it will likely show up within that time. Anything happening after that is probably going to be related to manufacturing defect or an act of God. (Keep in mind that those things can cause problems before year five, too.)
