We received a quote today to install Gerard Granite Ridge shingles directly over our existing asphalt shingles. From my research, it seems that batten is required at all times and the Gerard website seems to indicate this as well. The contractor however, says that Granite Ridge can be applied directly to the existing roof. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I am pretty certain that Granite Ridge does not require battens but PLEASE do not take my word for it -- contact Gerard direct and make the inquiry with them. They are a member of the Metal Roofing Alliance. Todd Miller
