Our roof on a new house leaks! It has a hip roof with a 6 on 12 pitch, low profile R-panel corrugated metal roof with a ridge vent. The roofer put closure strips & sealed all the vent pipes, but has yet to get it to stop leaking. We've been trying for over 3 months, & now hurrican season is here! What do you suggest?

You might use this website to find an experienced metal roofing contractor you could hire to come take a look and provide input. You also might contact the manufacturer of the roofing and see if they have a rep who could take a look. Also, you can if you like email photos to me at [email protected] and I will see if I have any ideas. Is this roof installed on solid decking or lathe board? If lathe, did the manufacturer approive of that sort of installation? Was tape used on the vertical seams between panels? Todd Miller

Todd, Roff installed on 2x4's, which was more than the 1x4 recommended. Not sure about the tape between panels. My roofer is experienced (I thought) & came highly recommended by 2 experienced contractors. The roofer says he needs to put 1x1 closure strips, but is having problems finding the material. I just found a company that manufactures the closure strips & will have them by Friday. Do you think this will fix the problem?

Wanda, I do not know many details about the leak, obviously, but certainly a lack of closure strips could cause the leaks. I highly suggest finding out who manufactured the roofing panels and contacting them to try to determine whether yours were installed properly. Todd Miller
