We are considering using a standing seam metal roof on a home in the woods. However, I am concerned about tree limbs falling on the roof and causing damage. Are the standing seam metal roofs susceptible to this type damage?

Any roof, regardless of whether it's metal, fiberglass, wood, tile, slate, etc., can sustain damage from falling limbs. Generally, metal is goimng to resist this damage fairly well but a big enough limb falling from high up caqn damage anything including metal.
One thing to keep in mind is that metal roofs generally will not leak due to indentation and generally they can be repaired to remove the cosmetic damage. Other products can easily leak after such damage.
