My Daughter has a mobile home that is approx 3 yrs old. It has had several roof leaks. I had my own roofer come and take care of some of the problems. I have come to the conclusion that that best solution is to replace the roof. My question is what about replacing the shingle roof with a metal roof? What about insulation under the metal? Thanks

Most residential metal roofs require a minimum roof pitch of 3:12. Whether or not the home currently has that pitch will make a huge difference in the options available to her. 3:12 means that, for every 12" the roof goes back horizontally, it must rise at least 3" vertically. Check the roof pitch if you can and then post back to let us know and we can talk about metal options available to you. Todd Miller

That is great. Your choice is open to virtually any of the products shown on this website, from shingle, shake and tile profile products to standing seam to through-fastened products. In most cases, installation would consist of underlayment over the old shingles followed by installation of the new roof system. Residential metal roofing systems will include the accessories you needs such as eave starter, gable edge trim, and ridge caps. I would say that, in most cases, additional insulation will not be advised unless you build up the roof with an extra cavity including insulation and ventilation. However, individual product manufacturers can help you with this question specific to their own products. Todd Miller

David, we cannot discuss pricing in this public forum because it is owned by a group of competing manufacturers. Discussing pricing here would be potentially a violation of antitrust laws. However, if you email direct to me at [email protected] and let me know a bit about your roofing needs and what types of metal roofing products you like, I will help you with some ballpark figures.
