I am looking at installing a metal roof on my house but it all ready has 3 layers of shingals on it and am wondering if it would be to much weight to attach it over the old shingls. If it isnt what is the best way to go about mounting the metal. Thanks

The building code does not allow an overlay over 3 layers. This weight is probably around 8 lbs a sf and then consider the inabiity to get proper fastening into the structure. Remeber you are putting on a lifetime roof and sooner or later the wood structure tires with age and removing extra weight is a plus.

Thanks for the help! One other qwestion, my house has 1 x 6 decking with 4 inch spaces and I was wondering if I would still need to add other decking or if this would work to attach the metal roof to. After removing the old shingals of course. Thanks

It should be fine but do not forget to install an underlayment. I would recommend a 30 lb felt minimum.
