I'm looking for the impossible! An affordable installation of a 5v type metal roof for a coastal beach home. The home will be approx. 1,000 feet from the ocean so I assume that Painted Galvalume is the minimum I should consider. I don't think I can swing the cost of aluminum. If you are an installer and have an interest in a simple 20-21 square job (38 x 40' hip roof, no pentrations , jobs or weir cuts, 5/12 pictch) please contact me at: [email protected] remove the spam_removal section and you'll have my address. Thanks, bradesp North Carolina

Lets see. You want the best for less, never heard of this before. Remeber you are making a lifetime decision so every corner you cut you will cut the lifespan. The most important thing is to decide if you are in direct salt spray, and what rainfal do you get a year to flush the roof. Yes painted Aluminum is one of the better metals but then there is stainless and terne coated stainless priced up in the copper range. Make sure you check out the substrate and try to get an AZ 55 galvaume coating on the steel. Also check out the paint system. You should be choosing a minimum SMP or alternately a PVDF paint system or a granular coating fopr duraability. Watch the spec on the material purchased at a retail centre. It is typically a commodity type panel meant for utility use. Same goes for the screws.
