For barrel arches that have high or low rises (radii) what types of roofing systems are best-suited and attractive for the New England region? I was particularly wondering about metal roofing.

I believe you are referring to "eyebrowes" that are installed in the roofs to provide an architerctural feature, light in the attic, ventilatione, etc. The most difficult aspect of them is the valley connection to the main roof. We recommend covering the eyebrowes and valley with a good quality peel and stick self sealing underlayment. Then a sheet of flat metal matching your roof selection can be formed over this to the centre of the valley. Then short sections of valley metal are installed from the bottom up using butyl tape to seal the overlaps and to the eyebrows. Hope this helps.
