I am planning to build duplex townhomes. I would like each unit to have its own hip roof seperated by the common wall. Will the valley created towards the common wall create a water problem ? The architect is not willing to design this way. What can be done to create a watertite valley at the common wall? I plan to use a standing seam roofing system.

There are ways to flash this with metal and make it work, particularly if you can put a cricket or saddle in it. However, it's tough, expensive, time-consuming, and it requires a very smart installer. I would design the buildings another way.
