I have heard that you need to be careful that your roof pitch is not too flat with a metal roof due to gaps created by expansion and contraction around screws. What is the minimum pitch to avoid the problem and what pitch would you consider ideal considering roof quality and installation cost control.

Minimum pitch will be stated by the manufacturer with each type of roofing panel produced. Most systems designed for residential use require a 3:12 pitch though there are some that can be used down to 2:12, usually with extra installation precautions. For roofs of less than 2:12, all the way down to 1/4:12, there are numerous commercial metal roof systems which must be mechanically seamed after the panels are installed. Todd Miller
