Would like to install snap-together metal roof on my manufactured home. Is this do-able by homeowner? There is an existing shingle roof with a roof mounted swamp cooler. I would be willing to remove the swamp cooler. Would I need to remove the old roof? Please advise. I live in Fernley, Nevada and would also like to know where the snap-together type metal roofs can be purchased. Are there books or instructions for a homeowner to install these products?

I am not entirely sure what you mean by "snap-together" but I assume you're talking about what is called a "snap-lock" standing seam. I would suggest using this website to track down and contact manufacturers of vertical seam panels to check with them regarding installation methods, product availability, and whether you can go over the old roof. Many of these panels probably can be installed over the old roof provided new appropriate underlayment is installed but that ultimate approval must come from the roofing manufacturer. Todd Miller

One more thing ... you will need to know the pitch of your roof and make sure that the metal roof you choose is appropriate for your roof pitch. Todd Miller

This depend supon the profile of the roofing you're installing -- some of the simpler shapes will lap better than others. However, in all, anyplace you have a lap, you have a potential problem. Todd Miller
