We recently re-roofed our home with asphalt shingles but like the look or the standing seam metal roofs we have seen on new homes in the area. The metal roofs we have seen have been installed only on bay windows or small entry porches for accent and color. Our porch is 19ft. wide and about 10 ft. long. What type of roofing should we use? Is the gauge significant? Do we need to worry about noise from rain and danger of falling ice?

Generally, provided that you have an attic space and ventilation and insulation, noise will not be objectionable. For the most part, there isn't any increased noise on the surface of metal roofs anyway. Pretty much any of the metal roofs shown on this website would work. Find something you like and then contact the manufacturer for details.
