there is currently a stitch down roofing sysytem on a wearhouse on 2' oc perlins. ther have had a tar coating sprayed over yet still leaks. I have suggested installing new 2x4 battens on top of the existing roof (directly over the old) and installing a standing seam, simmilar to mcelroys maxima. Is this to much weight, and what is the limit on this kind of situation.

You will need to have a structural engineer do an analysis if you are concerned about weightloads. However, putting a new metal roof over an old one is not unheard of for this type of industrial property. Roofhugger makes metal purlins specifically for this type of application. I would also suggest contacting McElroy with your plan and seeing what they say.
