I'm considering a metal roof for a house I am building on the southern Maine coast. While copper is my first choice it may not be affordable. Aluminum with color coated is a promising alternative, but I would like to know how well the color will hold up to Maine weather? What kind of warrenty can I expect?

I would look for a product which has a coating that meets or exceeds the requirements of the MCA Certified Metal Roofing program for a "Premium" finish. In layman's terms, as far as painted products go, this basically means you are looking for a Kynar 500 / Hylar 5000 finish. These finishes are known for their fade resistance and you can expect a 30-year fade and chalk warranty as well as an adhesion warranty which might be for even a longer period. These finishes are formulated for southern and high altitude performance where the sun's rays are very harsh.
