A NE W PRODUCT WHICH IS REFERRED TO AS BUBBLEWRAP HAS BEEN SUGGESTED INSTEAD OF 30 LB FELT. ANY PRO & CONS ? THIS IS ABOUT 1/4" THICK WITH SHINY SIDE UP AND DULL SIDE DOWN AND A MIDDLE OF A FOAM OR BUBBLE WRAP CONSISTENCY. IT COMES IN ROLLS OF 6'X100' AND COSTS ABOUT $150/ROLL.SUPPOSE TO HAVE ABOUT AN R10 FACTOR.WHAT DO YOU THINK?

There are a number of these products out there and they do add some R value depending on the application. If it is a vaulted ceiling assembly then it helps as it reflects back in, however the top side is not effective reflecting heat out unless it has at least a 1" air space. In a vented attic, it has limited R value. The R value is calculated when you have no other insulation and when it is used as a top up, it contributes less. It also is more effective when the roof covering material has poor energy reflectance properties such as a black material.
