We are looking to build on Carolina Coast. Our builder and others we have talked to do not suggest Metal roofing. They said warranty is void if you live on or near the coast because of salt damage. True?

I think that you will find that this varies somewhat from product to product depending upon the formation of the roofing, the quality of the base metal, and the quality of protective coatings on that metal.
There are certainly, however, steel roofs warranted for near coast applications and there are also, even more certainly, aluminum and copper roofs, as well as other metals, warranted for this type of application.

Multiple contractors told us the manufacturers will not honor warranties within 1 quarter mile of the Ocean. How do we break through the logjam? Do we request certain manufacturers? Specifics please. Thanks

Use this website and contact the manufacturers of products you like. I know that my company has several products with no exclusions for coastal applications. Once you contact the manufacturers, ask them about their warranty coverage for your application. If their answer is satisfactory, ask them to put you in contact with experienced contractors in your area.

I am sorry, Martha. I do not know. I am a manufacturer of aluminum roofing and I help on this board to share my technical information and insight.
I really, though, do not know exactly what warranties various manufacturers offer. Neither can I suggest one manufacturer over another.
You will be best to choose some products you like and then investigate these specific questions with their manufacturers.
You may not find any steel roof that is warranted for an application that close to the coast.

We live in Florida and were approached by a contractor who suggested Dura-Loc Metal Roofing tiles. Do you know anything about this company and would you suyggest using metal in our area?

I believe in metal for any area. I prefer non-ferrous metals for highly corrosive environment. Dura Loc is a member manufacturer of the MRA. Nice people. They will answer any questions you have concerning the suitability of their product and their product warranty for your area. Just give them a call.
