I purchased a cabin in the mountains of Colorado 10,000 ft. elevation - it is an old warehouse with an old barn metal roof. The roof consists of 2 x 6 trusses 4 ft o.c. with 2 x 4 (runners) approximately 4 ft. o.c., with no plywood or decking material. I would like to put a new metal roof over the existing barn roof. I have been told by one contractor that I can't do that without having moisture problems due to "vapor lock" - is this true? Is it advisable to put metal over metal?

First of all, if this is to be used for a living space, I would suggest forming an attic, insulating on top of the ceilings, and ventilating the attic. I would also suggest removing the roofing and applying decking followed by new roofing.
Installing metal over metal can be done though I would generally suggest spacer purlins between the two with a vented airspace.
It is really critical that you contact and work with the manufacturer of your new roofing to make certain that you are within their installation recommendations.
