WHAT IS THE BEST TOOLS TO USE TO CUT METAL ROOFING? IS IT A PROBLEM TO PUT METAL ROOF OVER DIMENTIONAL SHINGLES? I WILL BE PUTTING DOWN 30 LB FELT. IS THERE ANY PROBLEM WITH THE NAIL HEADS HOLDING DOWN THE FELT AGAINST THE METAL?

Many of today's residential metal roofs were designed for installation over old shingles. Always install a new underlayment such as 30-pound felt. Some products will also require a slip sheet on top of felt. I suggest plastic cap nails to hold the underlayment down. Generally, they create only very limited contact between the nail head and the back of the roofing. As far as cutting metal roofing, steel roofing should be cut with a shearing action, such as with tin snips, power shears, or a guillotine. Aluminum roofing can be saw cut. Always adhere to manufacturer instructions which should include details on cutting, underlayment, etc.
