We have a 2 story with a metal roofover that has little support under it. We purchased this house 15 yrs ago from an estate and have no information regarding this roof. About 2 yrs ago, we discovered it was leaking into one of the rooms. A roofer then told us the roof was not supported enough to walk on, but he was able to take off a panel on the end and get in between the roofs and put a tar patch when he thought it was leaking. This worked for a short while and we have battled with it ever since. Now that we have gone thru the hurricanes, it is worse than ever. We need to find a permanent solution. We are senior citizens with limited income and are concerned that the only remedy is to tear it off and start over. Any suggestions?

I am sorry about your situation. I really cannot say much, though, based upon the information you have given me. First, i would find an experienced metal roofing contractor and have them take a look. Second, I would look into tracking down the manufacturer of the roofing and getting their opinion. Third, if you would like to email me some photos, I will try to shed more light. [email protected] I really don't understand the comments about "little support" or how that would be impacting things. Generally, a leak in a metal roof will be because something has not been installed, flashed, or sealed properly.
