I currently have an asbestos-slate roof. Tough to walk on for inspections of gutters, chimney, etc. Considering a metal roof. Are there issues beyond typical safety concerns with walking on a metal roof to do these jobs? Especially wetness issues.

I could never suggest walking on any roof when it is wet or covered with dew or frost, regardless of the roofing material. There are urethane-coled shoes and overshoes available to help with wlaking on metal roofs. Also, all metal roofs should have instructions form their manufacturers as to how they can be walked without damaging the roofing.

Dave, How old is your asbestos-slate roof? I think I have one that's over 50 years old. It's starting to get dried out and had to walk on. I was thinking of covering it with metal. Is that what you are doing? Thanks. Karen
