I live a few hundred feet from a salt water shore line, and during high north winds we experience a lot of salt water spray coming onto our homes. My question is, how well does the metal roofing stand up to this type of weather.

I am a metal roofing contractor in central mississippi with 9 yrs experience. I am currently using wheeling products (exposed fastener)36" wide any length. I have no problems with installing this on any type of roof regardless of pitch or complexity. I've been seeing your ads on tv and have had several request for the new metal works shingles, I have been reluctant to submit bids on such roofs, my main reason is that these homes are mostly hip roofs and have pitches over a 7/12. I would like information on a safe and fast way to install these new roofs. I am unable to attend a class or seminar on this due to time restraints.

In the fall of 1999 I had a metal roof installed and since then I have had large amounts of snow slide down the roof and rip off a vent cover and almost rip off the gutters along the edge of the roof. Also, some of the snow slides off the garage roof and lands in the driveway and then freezes so I can't get my car out of the garage. Do you have a solution? Thanks, Mike DeMoss 952-920-0300 email [email protected]

Hi, We are having plans drawn now for our lake property. We are wanting the dock roof to match the house, and will be building it before the house. I have gotten some information locally on a steel roof, but would like to know what you offer. Will there be a need for added support for the steel roof? I would appreciate any information you can send me to this address: 3210 Villa Park, Kingwood, Tx. 77339. Thank You, Lois Atteberry

The low weight of metal roofing does encourage its installation over existing roofing. However, in some cases, building codes will require no more than two layers of roofing. In some cases, by carefully considering the individual application and the involved weight factors, inspectors will waive this requirement and allow metal to be installed. Todd Miller

Purlins are horizontally run channels, either wood or steel, to which roofing materials are attached. They run horizontally across the roof trusses. Some metal roofing products require the use of purlins. Other products can be installed over purlins rather than over solid roof decking. Many metal roofing products do require solid decking. I do not have any personal experience with the various gutter protection devices. I know that many metal roofing contractors do offer some sort of gutter protection product as an option. Once you choose what type of metal roof you want and you select an installation contractor, please inquire with them as to which gutter protection products are appropriate for your exact situation.
