I am planning to build a beachhouse on a small remote island off the coast of Florida. I would like to know your recommendation for a roof type and finish that is low maintenance, easy to install and cost effective.

You left out hurricane proof, lightweight and looks great but you did recognize the benefits of metal roofing.
As with any purchase yo need to weigh the features and benefits of each type of material against the cost. The old saying that "if its worth doing, its worth doing right" still applies here. Obviously an uncoated metal roof sheet is the most economical and the price goes up as coatings and form are added. The better the coating the longer the lifespan and the deeper the profile the stronger the panel.
