"modular" is a term the industry has used to refer to any of a wide variety of styles of metal roofing which are installed in small or medium sized "panels" rather than long runs from ridge to eave or large sheets.
Typically, the modular panels are either shake, shingle, tile, or slate facsimile. Typically, they install over solid decking though some can be installed over battens.
