i am curious whether it is possible to add a roofing system over an existing shingled roof, but creating a much higher peak/pitch? I envision doing a bracing system for the new roof out of metal, and not putting any wood under the new pannels. The weight of the new larger roof is my primary concern. I am in dallas/fort worth texas area, so the weight of snow is not a problem.

This is possible though the exact framing and battens/purlins depend upon exactly what sort of metal roof panel you choose. Also, I would suggest having a structural engineer do an evaluation before proceeding. Use this site to fine some metal roofs you like and then contact the manufacturers directly to discuss your particular application. Thanks. Todd Miller
