I just had a new metal roof installed this past week over the existing asphalt roof and I have questions and concerns about the installation. My main concern is that my old ashphalt roof was ventilated via a ridge vent. This vent was removed and I remember seeing the installer applying what appeared to be a rubber gasket parallel to the ridge then screwing down what the manufacturer describes in their literature as "ridge roll". The manufacturer also lists "ridge vent" and I was wondering why this was not used. I am concerned that my roof will not vent properly. I live in upstate Nw York where wind and blowing snow is a definite problem. An improperly installed or inexpensive ridge vent does not work in this environment. Surprisingly, as I drive around the area I notice a lot of metal roofs and they all seem to have the same ridge cap a I do. I guess I just don't understand how this system works. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
