It appears this was framed with multiple sides rather than truly round. If that is the case, then what is being done here is the standard installation rather than tapered panels. So long as the Z Channels at the hips are outside of the edges of the panels and also so long as the Z Channels are sealed to the panels, this all seems pretty standard. You are correct that joining the hip caps is tricky. They may want to consult with the panel manufacturer.
We are having a house built in SW Virginia that has what we call a round room (it has 7 sides with windows and 2 doors). They started the snap lock metal roof two weeks ago (worked Sat & Sun then stopped). I assumed that the panels would have come tapered so that they could snap together but they came rectangular and where hand cut). I'm concerned that there's a big gap between the cut panels that will be covered with hip cap and I don't know if they have any idea how to connect 8 hip caps at the ridge cap so that it's weather tight and looks good. The synthetic roof membrane was way past it's useful like and leaking but was not replaced. Should I be concerned or am I getting worried for nothing. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.
Todd, thanks for the quick reply. When you say "So long as the Z Channels at the hips are outside of the edges of the panels and also so long as the Z Channels are sealed to the panels, ..." In my pictures it looks like the Z channels break when it hits one of the standing seams. How would you prevent water/moisture from getting inside where the Z channel meets the raised seam? Thanks again.
