I'm glad people here are starting to talk about strapping a roof vertically and then horizontally. When I asked this question last year, this website and the company I bought my roofing from (which is affiliated with this site) acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. If I would have followed my gut, I probably wouldn't have had the ice dams I did over the winter. Buyer beware........

I am very sorry for your experience but I must say that, from the very start of our answering questions on this board, Al Reid and I have preached ventilation, including such things as vertical battens followed by horizontal battens for appropriate roof systems.

Yes- I called them vertical purlins and horizontal purlins. When I tried to explain this to the "technical" person at McElroy Metal, he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. Then when I asked for residential skylight flashing detail- I was sent a doc. on how to put up a translucent piece of ribbed roofing. I'm happy with my metal for the most part, but it was a bad experience.
