Gable End Requirements

I do not believe that gable drip edge is required by code anyplace. The normal gable on your type of roof does just sit on top of the last panel and get screwed down. However, the fact that the rib is cut off and underlayment is exposed in that area seems problematic to me.

I recently had a local contractor replace my shingle roof with a metal roof. After completion I noticed issues with the gable ends after heavy rains. An inspection discovered the contractor did not install drip edges on the gables, the metal was cut about 1-2 inches shorts of the edges, with peel and stick underlay basically overhanging the edges. This was covered up from best I understand is call a gable trim.

Is a drip edge on gable ends a code requirement. I have asked the contractor to fix the issues but am getting little attention.

I am seeking any guidance in this matter.
