Thanks Cindy. One of the things that many property owners love most about metal roofing is the variety of looks and even benefits that can be achieved. In most all cases, if you have good ventilation inside the structure, purlins are not needed, though they may enhance summer energy efficiency. Underlayment should go over the old shingles before anything new is installed over them. Trims should cap off and enclose the edges of the old shingles. In many cases, 6" gutters do work best. I hope this helps. The Buyers Guide and Video available on this website may be helpful to your group.
By the way, it sounds like you may have additional concerns. I am happy to address them here or if it's easier, feel free to call me at 937 422 8718 or email me at todd@asktoddmiller.com
