I have a dormer that is recessed into my 8:12 roofline. The area in front of the dormer is practically flat for about 3'. I'm putting metal roofing on the house but can I use it in this flat area? Also, there are vertical triangular walls that rise up from the flat area to the 8:12 roof. What to do??????

It depends a lot upon what type of roofing product you choose. Most metal roofs will not be suitable for the nearly flat area. Some would look fine on the vertical "walls".
An experienced and competent metal roofing installer will be able to custom-fabricate something for all of these areas which will blend well with the new roof.

At this slope you need a commercial Standing Seam product which may not fit your budget or have the desired look. I would then consult a flat roofing contractor to see what they have available in other materials.
