Hi,
I am looking at buying a house that has a metal roof that was just installed Dec 2003.
It was installed over old shingles but all around the house the ends are all exposed so that you can see the old shingles and plywood etc. We get a lot of snow and ice and we were afraid that the ice can back up under the roof . Is there suppose to be some metal striping along the sides or covering the ends?
Thanks.

In a word, yes. Exactly what should have been done depends upon the exact roof profile. However, yes, there should have been some sort of trim or drip edge closing off the old shingles.
I would highly suggest having a roof inspection done by an experienced and well qualified metal roofing contractor.
