Hi Dave, Thanks for your question about metal roofing. My understanding is that the gloss level has a minor effect on the solar reflectance. Much more important are the pigments that are used in the paint. A matte finish reflects practically the same amount of solar energy as a glossy finish, it is just diffuse - going in all directions. A glossy finish reflects the solar energy in an aligned fashion. The gloss level is primarily an aesthetic quality. Regards, David
