We just installed a new metal roof on our home and want to know if it is necessary to install lightning rods, or simply groud the roof at the corners. Thank you for your assistance. Connie Cotner

It is the conclusion of the Metal Construction Association and other groups that metal roofing does not increase the risk of lightning strike. While metal conducts electricity, it does not "attract" lightning. However, if you wish to pursue lightning protection, I'd strongly suggest contacting a company that specializes in lightning protection. Have them work with the manufacturer of your roof to determine the best method of protection.
