Metal shake roof over 1x6 spaced sheathing?

I am replacing a wood shake roof which was original to my 1895 house and has about three layers of asphalt shingles on top. The shakes were installed on 1x6 spaced sheathing. (See attached) I know that standing seam can be installed on top of this of this, but I'm not sure how the metal shakes install. I'm just trying to avoid the expense of replacing the perfectly good spaced decking with solid decking. Thoughts?

Hi Chris. Thanks for your post. The attached graphic does not seem to show your existing situation though. Am I missing something? I assume that what you're talking about would involve remove the layers of existing roofing. I do not recommend residential metal roofing installation over spaced shearing (without solid decking). There is too much risk of condensation issues. Additionally, the decking helps act as a sound deadener. Most metal shingles do require solid decking. There are a few that could be installed over battens though not necessarily what you have. (Again, though, I do not suggest residential metal roofs without decking.) Please feel free to email me if you would like to discuss this further. todd@asktoddmiller.com
