I am trying to learn more about metal roofs and am interested in installing one over shingles on a pump house shed that is 8'x12' with a gambrel roof. Is it difficult to install metal on this type roof?

Yes, because of the pitch changes, you will have a lot of time invested in this roof if you install any sort of vertically oriented metal panel. You also may find that, aesthetically, you do not like the pitch change flashings which will be necessary.
You may be able to find a horizontally run metal shingle system that could be installed pretty easily and would not require the pitch change flashings.
