It will be important to make sure that the metal panels you're installing are approved by their manufacturer for installation over battens over rigid foam. As far as thermal behavior and condensation, I think this sound like a good plan.

This is my proposed system from the outside in: 1. standing seam metal roof. 2. 1 X 3 furring strips. 3. foil radiant barrier. 4. 1" expanded polystyrene rigid foam. 5. bitumen ice and water shield over the entire roof sheathing. 6. 1/2" plywood sheathing. 7. spray on open cell foam against rafters and on the underside of sheathing. 8. 6" to 10" of fiberglass batt insulation between rafters. 9. 1/2" gypsum board. This system has been designed to provide for conditioned attic space and cathedral ceilings. I am interested in any and all commentary on insulation and water vapor condensation. this is the last house I will ever build and I want to get it right. Michael

Michael, Feel free to email me. There are probably easier and cheaper ways to build this roof if we are talking about new construction. Eric
