Jim, cut the 1 1/2" rigid foam to 24" wide and then place the 2 x 4 or 2 x 2 purlins. Make sure the purlins are fastened into the trusses using 4" long screws. If you use pressure treated purlins the screws need to be stainless steel. An 1 1/2" standing seam will work fine for this application. In addition, you should use a manufacturer that is a member of the Metal Roofing Alliance as all of agree to promote metal roofing to the residential market that meets certain standards of paint finish and corrosion resistance.
thanks for using metal roofing for your project. Let us know if we can doing anything else for you.

I would like to put standing seam roofing on 2 x 4 purlins with 1 1/2" rigid foam between purlins for a new garage.
Its a 4/12 hip roof with 1/2" OSB sheathing. Is there standing seam roofing for this application? The ones I've looked at all need to go directly on the sheathing. No heat or A/C will be in the garage.
