Airflow and ventilation are still the answers. I am sorry for the problems you have had. I may have asked this earlier but you do not have any unusual sources of moisture in your attic or home, do you? Laundry or bathroom vents that just go into the attic instead of outside? A ventless gas fireplace inside the home? The key is to get the heat and the moisture out of your attic. You want your attic to be very close to the same temperature as it is outside. Adding vents or even a power fan could help. Also, you need good balance between intake and exhaust vents.

Thanks Todd and no need to apologize! No we do not have anything unusual that would be leaking into the attic. (bathrooms etc) Insulation wise the only thing I can think to do is blow insulation under the attic floor and that is an expense that I am not prepared for. The floor in the attic is old tongue and groove that is TIGHT. I really do not want to cut up the floor either. We actually have 2 layers in the ceiling on the second floor. (that is right under the attic) There is the old ceiling (lathe and plaster- house is over 100 yrs old) and then there is a drop ceiling with insulation in between that. That is why I am at a loss.

Ok Todd so I have a question. Have you ever installed/recommended the electric/solar ridge vent fans? I am thinking in the meantime to get some air moving in the attic I can draw air up through the ridge by a fan.
Thanks ~Amy
