Our metal roof is about 12 years old. Mice and squirrels have chewed out or pulled out part of the ridge vent gasket, allowing them access to the insulation. Do you know of any "animal-proof" gasket material we could install?

You can install the ridge vent directly to the deck after you apply a sealant to the underside of the ridge vent. This will keep the ridge vent closer to the deck and give the rodents less to chew out and space to enter the space. If they chewed the synthetic material before, they will probably like the EPDM and nitrile gaskets that are commonly used. Eric Novotny
