I have a cabin at 10,000 feet in Colorado. The cabin is unattended during the winter. Snow/packed snow/ ice sometimes reach a depth of more that 12 feet by spring. About every four or five years the dome of the ridge cap is ripped off partially. I think it happens because of freezing at the roof layer and when the ice load moves it takes the dome of the ridge cap with it.
Is there a manufacturer who offers a heavy duty ridge cap without the dome. My roof is enameled steel with raised channels for strength and has never suffered problems. It seems to me that I need a thicker ridge cap without the dome .
I would appreciate your help.

You are probably right. I would find a commercial roofer or sheet metal shop that access to heavier gage products or sheet steel and can break form one for you. I would ask for 22 or 24 gage material.
