We are looking at replacing an old metal roof of a community center and have had contactors suggest using 30 lb felt over strapping underneath the metal roof panels. Others have suggested using the synthetic underlayment over strapping. Another option is to sheet the roof with OSB and put down a peel and stick underlayment. Any thoughts on what is best?

Plywood would make the roof most walkable. The peel and stick ice/water shield is the most substantial and most expensive. It is self healing and seals any fastener penetrations through it which is a nice option. The synthetic underlayment is better than felt paper and will last longer. Eric Novotny
