Need clarification on metal roofing energy tax credit wording.
Does appropriate pigmented coating mean that the metal roofing must be painted or can it be an unpainted metal with a coating such as: Valspar Corporation Fluropon SRWeatheredGalvalume439Z720M Coating 0.30 0.35 0.85 N Y N 20 or Southeastern Metals Southeastern Metals Acrylic CoatedGalvalume Metal 0.67 0.55 0.14 N Y N 25 ? The specs are from this website:

The following is the info I've found but it does not seem clear to me that I should exclude a highly reflective roof that is not painted for a painted one that has lesser reflective qualities. I want some clarification because in my area the metal roofing suppliers are not at all informed and I am getting conflicting answers to my questions:
""Metal roofs with appropriate pigmented coatings" and "asphalt roofs with appropriate cooling granules" that also meet ENERGY STAR requirements are eligible.
Roof coatings are NOT eligible for the tax credit.
The roofs that are eligible are "reflective roofs." Reflective roofs are not for everyone. They will provide the most benefit in hot sunny climates where you are using your air conditioning a lot. If your house is already shaded and the roof is not exposed to much sun, then a reflective roof may not provide a significant benefit. The benefits will also be lessened if your attic space is well insulated.
The law specifies: Any metal roof or asphalt roof installed on a dwelling unit, but only if such roof has appropriate pigmented coatings or cooling granules which are specifically and primarily designed to reduce the heat gain of such dwelling unit."

You will have to ask your manufacturer for the emissivity of whatever panel you want.
That is what determines Energy Star compliance.

Energy Star compliance is not the issue. Issue is which coatings/pigmentation is accepted for the tax credit. The eligible tax credit metal roof must be energy star compliant but it seems that not all energy star rated roofs are accepted for the tax credit. In particular, there are some suppliers locally that tell me galvalume is accepted for the tax credit and others that tell me the metal roof must be a particular painted coating to qualify for the tax credit.
