I have an existing asphalt shingle roof and a poorly insulated attic space. My metal roof contractor is going to install over the existing roof and gave me the option of adding insulation underneath my new metal roof. I'm wondering if that money may not be better spent in attic insulation. I'm hoping realize a large change in heat gain just from having an energy star roof material.
Where are my insulation dollars better spent?

Some metal roofs cannot have insulation installed directly beneath them. My suggestion would be to boost your attic ventilation and then add insulation to the attic floor.
