I e-mailed the metal roofing contractor who wants to put on a standing seam aluminum roof, asking him to specify what kind of synthetic underlayment he plans to use (in the estimate it just says "Eglert's synthetic undelayment").
I asked him whether it was Winterguard HT, which I had found on the Englert website, here:
http://www.englertinc.com/roofing-accessories.aspx?page=5
He said it isn't.
Then he wrote, "Its a new product they might not have it in the web site. Google for metal roofing synthetic underlayment they are basically all the same. If you remember I showed it to you that day at our job site."
I did google, and found various products.
Should I just trust him, insist he give me the specifics, and/or call Englert?

The products known as synthetics are indeed all pretty similar with some minor differences that generally don't have a major impact. Proper installation is critical with all of these products.
The HT product you mentioned is a self adhering ice and watershield type product. This is a more expensive product than standard synthetic.

Thanks, Todd. I guess I would still like to know exactly what he would use so I can read the installation instructions myself. So I'll try calling Englert.

If I had to guess,
He is probably using Palisades and if I am not mistaken, Englert supplies this product.
As Todd said there are not many differences in the synthetic products. The ice and water shield underlayment can be good in cold winter weather climates. It can also have bubbling effect with much sun exposure.
I would go with a synthetic and make sure the job is done right.
