I have been getting estimates on removing a cedar shake roof and installing metal. My chimney has copper flashing and one roofer told me I could not have a metal roof because it would react with the copper. Is that correct?

Most metal roofs are either galvanized or Galvalume coated. Copper is a dissimilar metal to both of these coatings. That means that contact with, or water runoff from, copper will cause galvanic corrosion. This is true even if the metal roof is painted. Manufacturers have dissimilar metals as an exclusion to their metal warranties.
