Do you know of any standing seam roof systems which have diaphragm strength without the use a metal deck underlayment?

This is outside of my experience area. I get confused at the difference between structural systems versus diaphragm strength. They are not MRA members unfortunately but a couple of companies you may wish to contact regarding this are Fabral and MBCI. Bill Croucher is head of engineering for Fabral at their Lancaster, PA main office -- [email protected] Todd Miller

Standing Seam metal roofs can have some diaphragm capacity, especially if it is mechanically seamed and is utilizing a fixed clip system in lieu of a floating system. However, most companies have not tested for this strength and those that have, you will probably find that the strength is not enough to eliminate the deck. You will find in most manufacturers literature, there is usually a dislcaimer in relation to diaphragm strength.

Thanks Tommy. I should have referenced you earlier as an additional contact on this. Not sure what I was (or wasn't!) thinking! Thanks. Todd Miller
