We are considering putting on a metal roof over our leakey old shingles. Since our budget is very limited, some friends have told us to just put the new roof over the existing roof, but we are concered about weak spots and posable mold in the rafters. If we just roof over it, will the mold eventually dry out and dye. We will be having the work done by amish who is also the manufacture and they said the same thing, that they would just go over the old roof. Any advise.
Thanks

This is done regularly. I always suggest a layer of underlayment on top of the old shingles ... and I would also encourage you to use this time to ensure that you have good attic ventilation which will help avoid mold issues and will also help avoid winter ice problems.
